The Municipality of the County of Richmond (MOCR) is a rural area of Cape Breton with a population of 8,964 people and 5,122 households. The Municipality covers 1,244 square kilometres. Richmond County benefits from a rich fishing community, a thriving industrial sector and a growing tourism industry.  

Located in MOCR is the Point Tupper Heavy Industrial Park, which is home to EverWind Fuels and Bear Head Energy’s proposed green hydrogen and ammonia projects. MOCR is very supportive of both projects and is keen to see the local socioeconomic benefits that will happen because of them. The Municipality is also interested in how clean fuels produced locally can be used to decarbonize key areas of the local economy, ultimately making Richmond County and the wider Strait of Canso area a green hydrogen and energy hub.
