Halifax Transit is the public transportation system that operates 369 conventional buses, 47 Access-A-Bus vehicles, and 5 ferries serving the residents of Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Halifax Transit employs a workforce of more than 1,000 employees and operates two transit maintenance and storage centres, three ferry terminals, 11 bus terminals, and 14 Park & Ride lots. Total annual bus and ferry ridership in 2024 exceeded 30 million.

To support HRM's targets to achieve net zero community emissions by 2050 and net-zero emissions from municipal operations by 2030, Halifax Transit is planning to transition to a zero-emissions bus fleet comprised of battery electric and other low-emissions bus propulsion technologies, which may include hydrogen fuel cell and/or dual-fuel (hydrogen-diesel) buses.
